NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month is just around the corner!
What is NaNoWriMo?
This epic yearly event brings hundreds of thousands of writers together to build writing endurance, finish a draft for a book, and ultimately conquer writer’s block.
The goal is to write 50,000 words every November. 50k is the length of a typical novel, which for this particular challenge, you have to write 1667 words a day, every day, for 30 days without obsessing over quality. If you like writing, then you should give it a try. Sign up here.
How to win NaNoWriMo 2020?
Write every day.
Do not edit your work. Don’t overthink it. Don’t plan.
Just write.
Let yourself go.
How to prep for it?
If you are an organizational freak, you can prepare what you want to write before the event starts. It’s not against the rules. Here are some excellent prep tips to help you develop the novel.
October is the time to prepare and set up the game to get the writing done. Not only in my physical environment, but mentally I got to believe that I’m the type of person who needs to write as if I have something to say.
My goal in life is to make writing a priority in the mornings, something to look forward to every day. But most notably, allowing the words to suck.
The NaNo Community
Local groups get together and write in quiet rooms to get to the daily quota or even in writing sprints rooms in a NaNo discord room.
If you’re looking to gamify your writing, 4thewords is a roleplaying game based on writing your daily word count.
Notion Template
I created a Notion Template you can use to track your words. Get our NaNoWriMo word counter template here.
As for my book, I’m going to write it. It’s going to be a total piece of crap, and so should yours.
