Productivity is about dedicating the time and energy into deliberate attention on the things that will bring you the most impact. It happens when efficiency and effectiveness meet, doing the right things right.
But, for some (including me), productivity is also about facing our biggest fears. Fears of not being good enough or being mediocre, of not being understood, of failing.
True failure happens when we don’t take responsibility for our inaction, when we drop the ball and don’t deliver what was promised. Somehow, we’ve associated shipping with failing.
What we don’t realize is that “failure” brings feedback: “How do I use this as a learning opportunity?”. It also leaves clues for success: “What worked well?”.
If you don’t find the time, transform the required energy, apply focus, and probe for feedback, then you won’t be able to be truly productive.
The 6 Whats
Add feedback into your weekly routines by asking yourself :
- What did I accomplish?
- What worked really well?
- What could have worked better?
- What productivity blocks keep cropping up?
- What is unconsciously stressing me out?
- What did I really enjoy?
Feedback is about being honest about your reality.
Good leaders tell the truth and act upon it to raise standards, to create a pattern of success, to create that freedom we all desire to achieve.
